The National Museum of Funeral History
For those looking to put a morbid twist on their next date in Houston, The National Museum of Funeral History is surely a one-of-a-kind Houston experience. Home to the nation’s largest collection of authentic funeral artifacts, you explore the rich history of putting people in the ground.

Learn about the lives and deaths of the Popes, the history behind the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and more at this hidden treasure on Houston’s northside.
But be careful, take a date here outside of October – we can’t guarantee you a second date.
The Beer Can House
The Beer Can House is exactly what it sounds like. This place is a house constructed from an estimated 50,000 beer cans! Whether you and your date love history, art, or just like to crack open a cold one every now and then, this museum located on Malone Street has broad appeal.
Constructed by visionary artist or eccentric boozehound (depending on who you ask) John Milkovisch in the 1960’s, The Beer Can House is a monument to one man’s tireless dedication to an unusual take on recycling. Nothing was wasted, as the house sports features like pull-tab curtain strings, aluminum siding, and a curious take on landscaping.
There’s not enough to see to cover a whole night out – perfect to continue into a second date. It’s also a terrific way to work up a thirst for dinner and cocktails with your special someone!
PacMan Fever Friday at Joystix
On the first and last Friday of each month, Joystix, an arcade game retailer, opens their showroom with over 200 new and classic arcade machines for an adults-only night of all-you-can-play gaming.
If you miss the glory days of the arcade, this is a delightfully nostalgic experience. Right out of another decade, this date will be a blast from the past. Leave your quarters at home, but bring $15 for entry at the door.
What’s even better? Next door there is a full-service bar where you and your date can grab a drink while you play. Just make sure you’re both over 21.
The Place Upstairs
This self-described late-night emporium is filled with rare and exotic oddities that are sure to get a conversation started. I won’t spoil the fun by telling you what you might find inside, but suffice it to say, The Place Upstairs has earned its spot on our list of Houston date night ideas that land outside the box. Some even say the place is haunted!
It is located above the Continental Club live music venue and is near other great, late-night spots. Needless to say, there will be plenty to do once you’ve had enough of the rare curiosities inside.
The Hobbit Café
Put a unique spin on a classic dinner date night at the Hobbit Café. This Lord of the Rings-themed Restaurant is more than just a gimmick. It has earned high praise for its variety of delicious dishes and generous vegetarian options.
For fans of the series, this should be on the top of your list for Houston date night ideas. The interior is decorated with all kinds of memorabilia from Tolkien’s iconic fantasy world, Middle Earth. Even if the café’s inspiration isn’t your thing, the unique atmosphere is sure to leave an incomparable impression on your date.
If you really want to stand out, try changing things up with an early-morning date! The large wooden patio is perfect for a romantic brunch.
Brooklyn Athletic Club
Another dinner date with a delightfully strange element, Brooklyn Athletic Club is both a gourmet restaurant and outdoor game club. Treat your partner to fine dining, craft beer and cocktails, then top the evening off with some classic lawn games.
Available games include Bocce, Horseshoes, Ping Pong, Badminton, and Croquet. We’ll keep the other unique offerings a surprise.
Graffiti Art Tours
An unorthodox date for the art lovers among us, Houston is home to some truly stunning graffiti and street art. With a little research you can track down some of the more notable examples, or take a guided tour and dive deep into the exciting culture surrounding this less-than-mainstream art form.
The Art Car Museum
The Art Car Museum features art projects made from automobiles. This exhibition has everything from intricately painted or adorned cars to projects that look like they are right out of the multiple Academy Award winning film: Mad Max. For another art-themed date night that strays from the norm, swing by this little-known attraction on heights boulevard.
iFLY Indoor Skydiving
Enjoy the thrill of skydiving without the airplanes and parachutes! iFly promises its guests the gift of flight in their vertical wind tunnel. Working one on one with an indoor skydiving instructor, you will be able to learn the fundamentals of what they call “body flight” and perform various maneuvers mid-air!
